4 Day Overland 4×4 Tour of Lesotho (10-13 Dec 2020)
4 Day Overland 4×4 tour of Lesotho
We are doing an amazing 4 day overland 4×4 tour of Lesotho from the 10th to the 13th Dec 2020. During the day we check out an amazing landscape where hardy shepherds tend their sheep. The evenings are spent sitting next to a warm fire talking about the day. Join us in your 4×4 or ours!

Lesotho isn’t just another country, it is another world!
This time we are going in summer for a very different country we saw in winter. Now the land is lovely and green with herders looking after their sheep. Read a bit more about Lesotho on our destinations page.
On this trip through Lesotho we stay in cosy mountain lodges every night.
We will leave Pietermaritzburg at 9am on 10th Dec 2020, and drive up the famous Sani pass. We have to stop for a visit in the highest pub in Africa for lunch and a drink. Then it is further into Lesotho with a 4×4 drive over Black mountain. We get to 3250m above sea level so the views are amazing. Another hour of driving and we arrive at our overnight stop. Molumong lodge is a simple, but lovely place to stay.
Day 2 is a stunning drive over and around endless mountains. The whole day is about a 5 hour drive and on the way we really see how really mountainous Lesotho is. It is like time stood still here. We have lunch on the banks of the Orange river and then through Thaba Tseka and to arrive at Katse dam. I love cooking and we enjoy a good South African braai while overlooking this impressive dam.
After some pancakes and bacon we leave for a really quite stunning drive through Lesotho. Eventually we leave the highlands behind and see who populated this little mountainous country can be. Lunch is in Clarens in South Africa.
Golden Gate is spectacular..
We camp at Golden gate and in the morning you will see why it is called Golden gate. There are some lovely walks to be done here to get the appetite going before breakfast. Then it is time to pack up and head home. Johannesburg and Pietermaritzburg are both about a 4 hour drive away.
