Tour Overview

Berg, bush, beach and battlefields

On this tour we visit 3 countries of Berg, bush, beach and battlefields. Consequently South Africa, Lesotho and Swaziland. The trip starts in Pietermaritzburg with a transfer from Durban airport if required and usually takes 10 days. We head up the world famous Sani pass 4x4 track into Lesotho, with a stop at the highest pub in Africa. Sani Pass, linking Kwazulu-Natal with Lesotho, ranks as one of the most rugged drives in Southern Africa. It is one of the highest passes in the world and driving over it is an experience as rarified as the air you breath when you finally reach the summit. Lesotho, also known as the roof of Africa, isn't just another country; it's another world and it's begging to be explored. After 3 days in Lesotho we drive to the battlefields around Kwazulu-Natal. The Cape has it's wine routes and Kwazulu-Natal has it's battlefield routes. While here we visit the battle sites of Blood river, Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana. This is where we hear some of the amazing stories of the battles fought in and around Kwazulu-Natal. The battlefield guides are wonderful story tellers and we feel like we are right in the middle of the action. From here we experience some friendly Swazi hospitality in Swaziland, most noteworthy the home of Africa's last true monarch, King Mswati III and Hlane Royal National Park. After a short tour of Swaziland we visit South Africa's First World Heritage Site, the Isimangaliso Wetland, to experience the stunning beaches along the Indian ocean. The marine wild life here is not to be missed. Nearby the Isimangaliso Wetland is Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Nature Reserves. Here the white rhino was saved from extinction. We finish our tour with game drives around these 2 iconic reserves.
